Statement of the Nation's Memory Institute in connection with the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine

The Nation's Memory Institute, whose mission is to publicize information about the past of totalitarian regimes available and to preserve the memory of their crimes for the edification of living and future generations, strongly condemns the military aggression of the Russian Federation against democratic Ukraine. The principles of humanity, democracy and international law, which the Russian Federation is violating with this attack, were already called into question at the time of its preparation by the manipulative use of the past for the purposes of hate propaganda and the purposeful erasure of the memory of the period of Soviet terror from the public sphere.

We draw attention to the dangers of such abuse of history and remind you that every crime, past and present, has not only tragic victims but also specific perpetrators.
