Hi-story lessons. Teaching & learning about 20th-century European history. Timelines" is a multilingual educational project with the aim of creating an interactive website, which supports the process of teaching and learning about the 20th-century European history. It is an international initiative prepared by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity together with the Georg Eckert Institute and experts from Germany, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland. The website is dedicated to teachers and pupils from the countries involved in the project and for a worldwide audience.
The first step of the Hi-story lessons' project is creation of multilingual interactive timelines so they could be used as educational tools in the classroom to show either particular timeline concerning each of the country of the project (Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Czech Republic) or the infographic which shows the background of the national history.
The "Hi-story lessons" project is not only about teaching and learning history of individual countries but, above all, it is an attempt to create a common, Central European historical background, which would support the process of teaching history of the 20th century and promote the interest in history among young people. Therefore, a dynamic infographic uses historical sources as a background and concludes the histories of the individual countries so that the young learners can see what was happening simultaneously in those countries and that the history of each country is not separated from the international context.
The aim of the project is to help history teachers in six Central European countries to deliver interesting, effective and memorable history lessons through incorporating innovative practices into their daily work. It will also help pupils to better understand 20th-century history by showing history in an innovative and attractive way. It will also constitute Open Educational Resources concerning history of the 20th century. "Hi-story lessons. Teaching & learning about 20th-century European history. Timelines" is going to be a non-profit educational tool and a part of open-source history teaching content.
